The Thesaurus Linguae Cypriae Graecae® was conceived
by the linguist Menelaos N. Christodoulou. He proposed the creation of a
computerized databank of the Greek Language of Cyprus following the model of
Thesaurus Linguae Graecae®, which was conceived and initially funded by Marianne
McDonald at the University of Irvine, California. The TLCG® Project was
presented to the innovative Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos Nikiforos (now
Bishop) in 1990, who had already founded the Research Centre of the Holy
Monastery of Kykkos. Abbot Nikoforos accepted the suggestion with enthusiasm and
founded the independent Centre of Thesaurus Linguae Cypriae Graecae®, which he
housed in a special building and supplied with the necessary technical and other
equipment. He appointed Menelaos N. Christodoulou, who suggested the Project, as
Director and hired associates and assistants.
The Centre of Thesaurus Linguae Cypriae Graecae® is among the
Thesauruses, which report the Greek language by the means of digital technology.
